For its tenth season, Love Island is back.
Fans of the show who are blind or visually impaired will notice a change this summer, even though the show has been on television since 2015.
For the first time, competitors have offered audio descriptions of their appearance, skin tone, and attire.
ITV received praise from the Royal National Institute of the Blind, which hailed the decision as "a remarkable example for the industry.".
Host Maya Jama describes herself as a tall, mixed-race woman who is 28 years old and half-Swedish and half-Somali in the audio description.
She continues, "I have long brown hair and brown eyes, and I like to dress colorfully. I'm happy and enthusiastic.".
During this year's winter season of the show, Ron Hall, who is blind in one eye, was the first contestant with a visual impairment.
The 25-year-old believes that ITV is taking a good "first step" toward accessibility.
It's a nice beginning, he says, that the organization that gave him a platform is now helping others because of his visual impairment.
"Although I'd say it's a sizable group, people often overlook the blind and visually impaired because they simply go about their daily lives and observe it normally.
"Therefore, it's encouraging that they're making a move. ".
Blind Connor Scott-Gardner concurs and believes it's positive that ITV is beginning to consider viewers like himself.
To be completely honest, the 29-year-old says he eagerly anticipates the entire season.
ITV's decision to include an element of audio description for blind viewers, in terms of audio description, is a great step.

Love Island devotee Abi James-Miller believes ITV could do more to improve the viewing experience for blind and visually impaired viewers.
