Two days after going missing, a teenage Canadian woman was discovered in the wilds of a sizable provincial park.
After becoming separated from her hiking group in British Columbia's 555 square kilometer (214 square mile) Golden Ears Park, Esther Wang, 16, vanished.
Authorities launched a massive 54-hour search that involved 16 search teams, a helicopter, and a drone.
But on Friday, the teen came out of a trail unharmed.
According to the police, Ms. Wang was recovering with her family.
She is happy, healthy, and with family. The best result is that, according to Supt. Wendy Mehat of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Supt. Mehat continued, "Esther's family has sincere appreciation for all first responders and Search and Rescue teams. They express their gratitude for the result and ask for privacy at this time. ".
According to authorities, Ms. Wang was last seen leaving the East Canyon trail at about 21:30 local time on Friday (04:30 GMT Saturday).
It's unclear how she got cut off from her squad. According to local media, the group left a lookout point on Tuesday around 14:45 and discovered Ms. Wang was missing about 15 minutes later.
When the group leader went back to the lookout and was unable to locate her, he raised the alarm. Soon after that, a search was started.
Emergency personnel examined Ms. Wang and found that she had only received a few mosquito bites as a result of the experience. Then she was allowed to go home with her parents.
"Esther being returned to her family was what our objective was," search and rescue spokesperson Ryan Smith said. "We're elated at the outcome of the search.".
"We made the most of the available resources. In particular, I want to thank the RCMP, other first responders, and the helicopter companies that helped us in this laborious search.
