Aoife Mannion: A defender for Manchester United gets the first call-up for the Republic of Ireland

Aoife Mannion, a defender for Manchester United, is one of the two uncapped players in the Republic of Ireland squad for the first time.

A 10-day training camp and friendly match against China will feature the 27-year-old and Marissa Sheva in Spain.

Birmingham-born Mannion played for England at the U23 level and was twice called up to the senior team without playing.

Her allegiances were switched to the nation where her mother and father were born.

Sheva, a forward for the Washington Spirit, also received permission to represent her grandparents' nation internationally.

The three WSL players Ruesha Littlejohn, Megan Connolly, and Heather Payne are back in the 26-person squad after missing the 4-0 friendly victory over Morocco in November. Along with them are Claire Walsh of Glasgow City and Naoisha McAloon of Durham.

Niamh Fahey and Leanne Kiernan of Liverpool, along with Savannah McCarthy, Chloe Mustaki, Ellen Molloy, Jess Ziu, and Aoife Colvill, are all out injured for Pauw.

The team will convene in Spain on Monday and be based in Marbella. On February 22, in Cadiz, they play the Women's Asian Cup champions China to close out the camp.

It will be used as practice for the Republic of Ireland's first-ever Women's World Cup, where they will play the tournament's opening match against co-hosts Australia on July 20.
