The Scot managed it expertly to win by 31 points, solidifying her position as the most successful rider in the championship's history.
Wood, 27, will also be thrilled to win his first gold at this level after previously winning eight European bronze medals.
Bigham, who for a brief period in 2022 held the world hour record, qualified first in the men's individual pursuit, breaking the previous mark in Grenchen.
He was unable to stop Italian Jonathan Milan, who finished strongly to win the race in the last kilometer.
After falling earlier that day, Mathilde Gros of France, the world champion, was defeated by Capewell to win her first individual medal at this level.
